    Governor Polis Announces Colorado Author as New Poet Laureate

    BOULDER - Today, Governor Polis and the Colorado Creative Industries (CCI) division of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) announced that Andrea Gibson has been selected as the new Colorado Poet Laureate, succeeding Bobby LeFebre. Gibson, a Boulder-based queer activist, author, and slam poet will serve in the role for two years.

    Biden Administration Recognizes Colorado’s First in the Nation Health Cost Savings Program and Awards $245 Million to State 

    DENVER - Today, the federal government, through the Department of Health & Human Services and the U.S. Department of the Treasury, is announcing that the Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI) will receive $245 million in pass-through funding for its health insurance programs for 2023. This amount includes funds for the Colorado Reinsurance Program, and for the first time, the Colorado Option program.

    Colorado Expands Access to Mobile Behavioral Health Services

    DENVER - Coloradans experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis will now have expanded access to highly-trained crisis response teams in their communities, and can receive a safe ride to receive behavioral health treatment if needed.  Today the Polis Administration in partnership with the Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) and the Department of Health Care Policy & Financing (HCPF) are expanding existing Mobile Crisis Response (MCR) and covering a new service, Behavioral Health Secure Transportation (BHST).

    More Than $470,000 raised to Benefit Colorado Youth during Colorado’s Electric Cooperatives Junior Livestock Auction

    PUEBLO — The 2023 Colorado’s Electric Cooperatives Junior Livestock Sale held yesterday at the Colorado State Fair raised more than $470,350 in the auction of 108 animals raised and shown by young people from across Colorado. The 2023 Grand Champion Market Beef, raised by Hadli Gabel of Weld County, was sold for $50,000 at today’s event and was purchased by the Sam Brown family.

    Stoke Pizza Wins Golden Plate Award at the 2023 Governor’s Plate Competition

    PUEBLO — From the six food trucks competing in the third annual Governor’s Plate competition at the Colorado State Fair, Stoke Pizza received the Golden Plate award for their wood-fired chorizo, elote, and green chile pizza. Papa Mario’s Grilled Cheese was chosen as the People’s Choice winner for a third year in a row for their Tiff Special roast beef sandwich.

    Lt. Governor Primavera Attends White House Event on Lowering Health Care Costs

    WASHINGTON D.C. – This morning, Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera, head of the Office of Saving People Money on Health Care  Colorado was pleased to join President Biden and Vice President Harris in the East Room of the White House for the announcement of a new effort to lower the cost of prescription drugs and health care costs for seniors. President Biden delivered remarks on his Administration’s efforts to lower health care costs for millions of American families. The Polis-Primavera administration is committed to saving people money on health care. While in Washington D.C., Lt. Governor Primavera also met with other Biden administration officials to discuss Polis-Primavera healthcare priorities.

    Serve Colorado Announces Fall Grant Competition for AmeriCorps Programs

    DENVER —  Serve Colorado, located within the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and which administers Colorado’s AmeriCorps State program, is now accepting applications from nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher education, and state and local agencies who are interested in placing AmeriCorps members in Colorado. AmeriCorps grants help expand services and reach underserved communities through the power of community service. Concept papers for new AmeriCorps programs are due to Serve Colorado on September 22, 2023 at 5:00 PM MT. There will be a Request for Applications (RFA) Orientation Webinar on August 30, 2023 from 10:00 AM MT - 11:00 AM MT. Participants are asked to pre-register online.     Polis Administration, Colorado Department of Public Safety Announces Office of School Safety

    LAKEWOOD -  The Office of School Safety (OSS), created through bipartisan legislation and signed by Governor Polis, officially took effect on July 1, 2023 within the Department of Public Safety. Christine Harms was appointed director of the new office on July 15.  The Office of School Safety provides key resources, grants, and crisis response to support schools with preparedness and to ensure that students can learn and teachers can teach in safe environments.
