Governor Polis's Statement on Dismissal of Lawsuit Against Free Preschool in Colorado

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis released a statement related to the dismissal of a lawsuit challenging Colorado’s landmark universal preschool program.

“Rejoice parents, because Preschool is here to stay! Every Colorado child deserves to be able to go to preschool and we are thrilled that soon the next class of students will be entering the classroom to get the best possible start in life while their families save thousands of dollars every year. We look forward to building on the incredible success of free preschool in Colorado, serving even more students and saving families money,” said Governor Jared Polis.

In year one, free preschool served 46,677 three and four-year-olds, and Year 2 of the program is expected to surpass this progress.

The Polis administration was pleased to see a judge dismiss this case and remains focused on expanding access to early childhood education in a fully mixed delivery model and lowering costs so no family has to sacrifice their child’s education to make ends meet. This ruling is a win for Colorado children, families, and the future.
