DENVER - Today, Governor Polis took Executive action to update and supplement previous executive action to build more housing now. In May, Governor Polis took initial executive action to increase housing supply and break down barriers to more housing people can afford. Today, Governor Polis took action to update and supplement this effort, including releasing the list of impacted grants and directing state agencies to prioritize future grant funding, where there is discretion, for communities that are leading on the effort to create more housing that Coloradans can afford in compliance with state law.
“We are building more housing now and breaking down government barriers to new homes. It is more important than ever to lower the cost of living. This action will lead to more housing that people can afford. Today, I am directing relevant state agencies to ensure state grant support goes to communities that are stepping up to be part of our housing solution,” said Governor Polis.
Colorado is leading the way in lowering the cost of housing and breaking down government barriers blocking new housing that people can afford. Governor Polis has signed landmark laws to break down barriers to housing, allow more housing options near transit, and cut through government red tape to reduce the cost of housing. Major steps forward include laws around transit-oriented communities, accessory dwelling units, eliminating discriminatory occupancy limits, costly parking requirements, legalizing smart-stair apartments, and jump-starting starter home condo construction.
