Governor Polis Releases Statement on EPA’s Final Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Heavy-Duty Vehicles

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis released the following statement on the EPA’s final Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Heavy-Duty Vehicles.

“We applaud the EPA on this new rule that will significantly reduce emissions from trucks and buses nationwide, improving our air quality and public health. Colorado is proud of our nation-leading work to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, which includes a successful transition to zero emission trucks and buses, and we are glad to see the types of policies we’re using in Colorado reflected in the EPA’s new rule.

While Colorado has implemented its own clean truck standards and incentives, a strong national heavy-duty vehicle standard is critical to address air pollution challenges and the disproportionate burdens on our communities living near freight routes, as a significant percentage of truck traffic in our state comes from vehicles registered elsewhere. We appreciate how engaged the EPA has been with Colorado as they have developed this rule, and look forward to continuing working alongside the Biden administration to deploy zero emission trucks and buses in order to reduce pollution, improve air quality, and support future generations.”
