Governor Polis Will Also Celebrate Colorado’s Strong Philanthropic Community and our State’s Leading Work to Build a Stronger Economy

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis attended a series of events focused on solutions to help people save more money on healthcare, Colorado’s leadership on tech policy, and Colorado’s work  to grow the state’s  economy.

The Governor began his day by providing opening remarks at the Progressive Policy Institute’s Tech Innovation Panel, which aims to bring bipartisan leaders together to discuss the economic forces that shape tech policy, and the work at the state level to build comprehensive and responsible tech policy. Since 2019, in Colorado, the tech industry has contributed to a 28% increase in new businesses, and a 116% growth in likely employer business applications.

“Colorado is the best place to start and grow a business, we are a national hub for the tech industry. Our robust tech industry is made up of Colorado-grown companies as well as companies that flock here for our low taxes, business-friendly environment, quality of life, and strong workforce, and we will continue welcoming new businesses to our great state,” said Governor Polis.

Governor Polis then discussed the future of healthcare in Colorado at the State of Reform Health Policy Conference, focusing on ways to save Colordans money  on healthcare. Colorado has made large strides in reducing patient costs, improving price transparency with the Hospital Price Transparency tool, lowering the price of prescription drugs, and making health insurance more affordable with Colorado Option plans and Reinsurance. Colorado was also the first state to cap the cost of insulin at $100 per month, which previously cost upwards of $5,000 per month.

“In Colorado we are committed to cutting costs and supporting quality health care that is more affordable and accessible to all Coloradans. We know that when we come together and innovate, we can tackle even the most complex challenges, which is why I am excited to be here today to continue our work to save people more money on healthcare and help Colorado thrive,” said Governor Polis.

Later on today, Governor Polis will discuss sustainable development practices at CO Impact Days, an event that aims to initiate more impact investing in Colorado by connecting community foundations, family offices, investors, philanthropists, and community leaders to facilitate restorative private investment capital ranging from $10 million to $1 billion for local communities.

“Investing into our schools, communities, and local infrastructure is a top priority in Colorado. Not only are we making bold progress to deliver on the promise of more housing now by cutting red tape and breaking down artificial barriers that prevent or delay housing from being built, we are fully funding education and providing robust support for meaningful, enriching, safe out of school time opportunities for students. All of this work would not be possible without key investments and a deep love for Colorado, and I am excited to continue to grow Colorado's capacity and build a Colorado for all,” said Governor Polis.
