Governor Polis Celebrates 4th of July, Marking 249 Years of Independence From Monarchy and Tyranny

Thursday, July 3, 2025

DENVER - As Americans and Coloradans prepare to gather with friends and family to celebrate the 4th of July, Governor Polis is celebrating the holiday and honoring America's 249-year history of independence, freedom and rejection of monarchy.

“I am thrilled that next year The United States of America will be celebrating our 250th birthday at the same time Colorado is celebrating our 150th. That milestone will be 250 years since our country declared independence from King George III, and every July 4th, we get to celebrate this significant moment in American history. This 249th birthday is a celebration of freedom, independence, and the break from kings and tyranny. Here in Colorado and across the country, we continue to defend against those who seek to take away our freedoms. I wish every Coloradan a happy, safe, and free 4th of July,” said Governor Jared Polis.

Coloradans can celebrate the 4th of July with many firework and drone light shows. Governor Polis urges Coloradans to remain safe and vigilant around fireworks and encourages anyone using legal fireworks to take all necessary safety precautions to keep Colorado communities and neighbors safe.

In 2026, America will be celebrating its 250th birthday while Colorado will be celebrating its 150th birthday. To commemorate this celebration, Governor Polis signed legislation creating the 150/250 Commission with the mission to create a state-wide celebration and an Executive Order directing state agencies to find opportunities to celebrate.

Here’s a list of firework shows around the state. Denver Metro Residents can also attend Indy Eve at Civic Center Park, a 300-drone light show tonight, on July 3, 2025.
