Governor Jared Polis, Attorney General Phil Weiser, and Mayor Mike Johnston Commemorate the Grand Reopening of the Counterterrorism Education Learning Lab’s (CELL’s) Exhibit

DENVER – Today, Governor Polis, Denver Mayor Johnston, Colorado Attorney General Weiser, and Larry A. Mizel, along with other guests gathered at the grand opening of the newly redesigned CELL Exhibit. The groundbreaking exhibit, which was developed with the help of leading national security experts and designed by Emmy Award-winning artists, offers visitors an immersive experience that addresses the most pressing domestic and international security threats.

Since 2008, the Counterterrorism Education Learning Lab (CELL), a nonprofit, nonpartisan institute, has provided a comprehensive look at the threat of terrorism and violent extremism and how individuals can play a role in preventing it, ultimately enhancing public safety. Through its acclaimed exhibit, distinguished speaker series, and training programs, the CELL provides an important service in enhancing the safety and security of our nation. 

In the past several years, the CELL has undergone major renovations to build a state-of-the-art exhibit, featuring artifacts and items used during terrorist acts, immersive multimedia experiences, and interactive displays that can be updated in real time.

“Hate has no home in Colorado and the CELL’s dedication to educating and empowering individuals helps provide certainty and hope. I encourage all Coloradans to visit the CELL and help make a difference,” said Governor Polis. 

Larry A. Mizel, founder and chairman of the CELL, expressed his gratitude to the artists and subject matter experts who have contributed to the exhibit, stating, “Their expertise and creativity have brought this vision to life, providing visitors with a unique and impactful experience.”

“As they tour the new CELL Exhibit, visitors to Denver will recognize a city that is educated about the world and is inspired to counter hatred and violence,” said Mayor Johnston.

“I can think of no stronger response to today’s surge of hatred and violent extremism than the reopening of the CELL Exhibit,” said Attorney General Weiser.

The keynote speaker was Tom Sanderson, founder and former director of the Transnational Threats Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, previously part of the CELL’s content development team.  

The exhibit will be open to the public starting May 9. The CELL Exhibit is located within the Denver Civic Center Cultural Complex, adjacent to the Denver Art Museum. For more information, please visit www.TheCELL.org.
