DENVER - Today, Governor Polis celebrated the Census Bureau vintage population estimates showing that Colorado’s population reached and exceeded 6 million for the first time ever, reaching 6,012,561 by July 1, 2025. Combined with upwards revisions for prior years, this represents a .92% year-over-year increase relative to the previously published estimates for July 1, 2024 (5,957,493). “The secret is out, Colorado is the best place to live, work, play, start a family, and grow a business. The numbers don’t lie, and I am excited to see Colorado’s population grow despite trends across the nation. Here in Colorado, we are focused on investing in our communities by breaking down barriers to housing, expanding workforce and job opportunities, and investing in families and schools. I look forward to welcoming even more people to Colorado as we move further into the new year,” said Governor Polis.
“While growth had its challenges, like the potential to push up housing prices, the actions we are taking to make it easier to build new homes are effective in keeping rents and home prices stable while building more housing people can afford,” said Gov. Polis.

Governor Polis recently released a report detailing significant decreases in crime In 2025, between January and June, compared to the same time period of 2024 Colorado saw significant drops in crime across the board compared to 2024.
2025 Census Bureau data shows that Colorado’s total births at 65,380 between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025, a 4.6% increase over the prior year and the highest amount since 2017. Colorado is proud to be continuing to invest in children and families, offering free Universal Preschool (UPK) and free full day kindergarten to Colorado children, and fully funding Colorado’s K-12 schools.
