Certain mental health professions that are certified or licensed in the State of Colorado are required to demonstrate their continuing professional competence through participation in the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program in order to renew, reinstate, or reactivate their license or certificate.

The CPD program requires licensees to participate in a reflective assessment, the drafting and maintaining of a learning plan, and the accrual of 40 professional development hours each two-year renewal cycle.

Board Rule allows allows the Boards to grant an exemption from participation in the CPD program for a single license/certificate if the licensee has already complied with the program for a different license/certificate subject to the same program.

Licensees do NOT have to submit a request in order to receive this exemption.  A Learning Plan must be submitted to DORA in order to renew any certificate or license with CPD requirements.  However, dually and Triply certified/licensed individuals can apply the same Professional Development Hours (PDH) to each of their Learning Plans.

For more information about Dual Licensure, refer to your profession's Policies and/or the Professional Portfolio.

Legislation passed during the Legislative Session impacts the Division of Professions and Occupations. Please review the program's Laws, Rules and Policies web page to learn of any changes due to legislation.
