Consumer Protection is our Mission.
On behalf of the Director of the Division of Professions and Occupations, the Colorado Office of Direct-Entry Midwifery Registration (“Office”) regulates individual registered direct-entry midwives in the state of Colorado. Office activities include licensing midwives, investigating complaints, and enforcing disciplinary actions against those who violate the Direct-Entry Midwives Practice Act and the Director’s Rules and Regulations. The mission of the Office is to maintain the profession’s integrity and protect its consumers. The Office works in conjunction with the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) and the Colorado Midwives Association (CMA).
The Direct Entry Midwife Registration Program will be convening a group to discuss if Midwives should be given the authority to suture perineal tears, and if so, what education, training, and practice standard should be enacted.
This group will meet Friday, June 28, 2013 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the DORA offices, 1560 Broadway, Suite 1250B, Denver, Co 80202.
A diverse group has been selected to give program staff information to write a document that will then to given to the Legislature and the DORA Office of Research, Policy and Regulatory Reform before the next sunset review. The information will also be made available on the website.
Any member of the suturing group or any member of the public may submit written comments about these issues to maureen.hartlaub@state.co.us or 1560 Broadway St. #1350, Denver, CO 80202. Comments must be limited to one page, and factual information with a bibliography or cite is preferred.
