Licensing Services

Speech-Language Pathologists

Effective July 1, 2013, a person cannot practice speech-language pathology or represent or hold himself or herself out as being able to practice speech-language pathology in Colorado without possessing  a valid certification issued by the Director of the Division of Professions and Occupations (“Director”).  Please see Section 12-43.7-108, C.R.S., and Rule 16 for exclusions.FAQ's are available here.


Definitions

  • Original License by Examination:  You were educated within the United States, you have already taken and passed the national examination adopted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, or you are applying to take an examination in order to qualify for licensure in Colorado.
  • Original License by Endorsement:  You hold an active license in another state and wish to apply for licensure in Colorado.
  • Renew:  You currently hold a Colorado license and are in a renewal period.

License Expiration Grace Period for New Applicants. All new applicants who are issued a license within 120 days of the upcoming renewal expiration date will be issued a license with the subsequent expiration date. For example, licenses issued between August 1, 2014 and November 30, 2014 will reflect a license expiration date of November 30, 2015. Licenses issued prior to August 1, 2014 will reflect an expiration date of November 30, 2014 and must renew in the upcoming renewal period.

License Renewal Information. All Colorado Speech-Language Pathologist licenses expire on November 30, 2014 and must be renewed to continue practicing.  They will then expire November 30 every year and must be renewed to continue practicing.
