The fee to renew your Veterinarian license this year is $242. This amount includes $80 for the next 2-year period that will be used in supporting a veterinarian peer health assistance program selected by the Board of Veterinary Medicine. This designated peer health assistance program will provide assistance to veterinarians needing help in dealing with physical, emotional, or psychological conditions that may be detrimental to their ability to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Colorado. This new program, and the additional money required to fund it, have been established in response to a statutory change made to the Veterinary Practice Act as a result of Senate Bill 11-091 that became effective July 1, 2011. Please review section 12-64-124, Colorado Revised Statutes for the specific statutory language, which can be accessed here.

License Renewal Fees:

Renewal fees have increased since the last Veterinary Renewal. As you may know, the renewal fee is evaluated each year and set to meet the budgetary needs of the program; however, it is difficult to predict if costs of regulation will decrease or increase in the future. Renewal fees help offset the operational expenses of the program and is an integral part of our commitment to work diligently to provide consumer protection.

  • If renewed on or before October 31, 2012 :
    • The Active Veterinarian renewal fee is: $242
    • The Inactive Veterinarian renewal fee is: $224
  • If renewed on or after November 1, 2012 , a $15 delinquency charge is applied and the totals are:
    • The Active Veterinarian renewal fee is: $257
    • The Inactive Veterinarian renewal fee is: $239
  • After December 31, 2012, your license will be expired and you must reinstate.

All fees are Non-Refundable. The Division of Professions and Occupations cannot and will not take payment information over the phone. We will not request credit card numbers or checking account numbers via telephone. You will only be able to pay for your renewal online, in person at our office or by mail with the necessary renewal packet. To protect your information DO NOT provide any credit card or checking account numbers over the phone to an unknown source.

During the licensing process, the Division asked whether you have ever been disciplined in any state, arrested, charged, convicted or pled guilty to a crime. After initial licensure, all licensees have a duty to report subsequent felony convictions and disciplinary actions. Some must also report misdemeanors related to the specific practice. Failure to disclose could constitute grounds alone for revocation of your license.

Licensure is a privilege, not a right. In order to obtain and retain the privilege, you must be completely honest. The Division conducts audits of its licensing database against several criminal and national disciplinary databases, which allows the Division to track subsequent criminal conduct and disciplinary actions after initial licensure.

An arrest, disciplinary action or subsequent criminal conviction does not mean an automatic revocation of your license. The board or program will look at the facts surrounding the criminal conduct and disciplinary action to determine whether you are still fit for licensure. Your license will not necessarily be revoked if you have been disciplined, arrested, charged or convicted, but your license will most likely be revoked if you fail to disclose it.
