Certified Public Accountants 


Definitions

  • Original License.  You are applying for an Original Colorado CPA certificate either by examination, endorsement (reciprocity), or by transfer of grades. Or you are applying for an original Colorado Public Accounting Firm registration. All applicants for original licensure must apply through the NASBA website.
  • Renew:  You currently hold an active Colorado certificate or registration and are in a renewal period.
  • Reinstatement:  Your Colorado certificate or registration has expired and you wish to reinstate it.
  • Change Status:  You hold an active Colorado license and wish to change your status to inactive.
  • Reactivate:  You currently hold an inactive Colorado license and wish to change your status to active.
  • Retired Status:  You are applying to maintain your Colorado license in a retired status. You must comply with Chapter 6 of the Board Rules

License Expiration Grace Period for New Applicants. All applicants who are issued a certificate within 120 days of the upcoming renewal expiration date will be issued a certificate with the subsequent expiration date. For example, certificates issued between August 1, 2013 and November 30, 2013 will reflect a certificate expiration date of November 30, 2015. Certificates issued prior to August 1, 2013 will reflect an expiration date of November 30, 2013 and must renew in the upcoming renewal period.

License Renewal Information. All Colorado Certified Public Accountant certificates expire on November 30 of odd-numbered years and must be renewed to continue practicing.
